Annual Operating Fund
Center in the Square’s newest museum, Kids Square, will create a space in Downtown Roanoke the whole family can be a part of. Kids Square is geared towards children from toddler to age 10. The museum encourages play, education and gross motor skills that are important for development of children in this age range. The museum will also offer a sense of support for parents by introducing them to other parents in similar situations, and with classes and workshops that discuss parenting at different stages of a child’s development. All of this will be provided at little cost to the families with scholarships available for economically disadvantaged families.
Annual Operating Fund
Your contribution to the Annual Operating Fund goes directly to help pay the rent, maintain the buildings, pay the utility bills, provide custodial, security, and janitorial supplies and services for all of our organizations so they don’t have to worry about funding to cover those essential costs. By giving to Center in the Square, you are supporting arts and cultural education and high standards of learning in history, science, theatre, music, and dance; all provided by our beneficiary organizations.
We absolutely can’t do it without your help! Non-profit arts and cultural organizations enhance the opportunities, benefits, and programs provided to our community. Each of us can make a difference in a small way, in our own sphere, and can find ways to help that will make our efforts worth the time and trouble we invest.
Your contribution does make a difference! No matter how you stack it, anything you decide to do can make your little corner of the world a happier, healthier, more creative, and educated place – and that is the greatest gift of all.

Memorial and Honor gifts
Memorial and Honor gifts are an especially meaningful way to celebrate special occasions and remember loved ones while supporting Center in the Square. Memorial gifts made to Center in the Square are a unique way to honor a special person in your life and to provide a lasting tribute. The gift may be made by you alone or by a group of people such as family, neighbors, or fellow workers.
Honor gifts allow donors to recognize special milestones in your loved ones lives, or just to recognize a special individual or occasion. Honor gifts are also a meaningful way to acknowledge their commitment to education, arts, and culture.
Matching Gift program
Corporate matching gift programs support employees and reitrees in their personal philanthropy/charitable giving by providing matching funds. Check to see if your company has a matching gifts program. Through a Matching Gifts donation you will receive full recognition for the total amount.
To make a planned gift [deferred gift], a person decides to give at some future date, either a number of years from now or at death. A planned gift is a present decision to make a future gift through a legal contract. Planned gifts are referred to as such because they require more planning, negotiation and counsel than many other gifts. These types of gifts can result in immediate income, income to Center over time, or serve to delay a gift for life or other period of time while the donor or others retain income and/or access to the assets used to fund the gift.
By far, the most commonly utilized planned gift is the bequest of property through a person’s final will. Other types include:
- Charitable bargain sale
- Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT)
- Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT)
- Charitable remainder trust
- Charitable lead annuity trust
- Charitable lead trust
- Donor Managed Investment Account
- Pooled income fund
- Retained life estate
- Testamentary life income
Assets to give include: Securities • Business interests • Cash • Life Insurance • Personal Property • Real Estate • Retirement Plan
