The John W. Hancock Jr. Scholarship Awards
The Western Virginia Foundation for the Arts and Sciences, operating as Center in the Square, seeks applicants for the 2007-2008 John W. Hancock Jr. Scholarship Awards .
One deserving student will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship to recognize the many contributions made by Mr. John W. Hancock, Jr., to the establishment and operation of Center in the Square, which provides a free home to seven independent arts and sciences organizations in Roanoke , VA.
PURPOSE: This scholarship encourages talented students needing financial assistance to attend a two-year or four-year college or university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and located in the Commonwealth of Virginia .
CRITERIA: Scholarship candidates must intend to enroll in, a major in art, history, science, theatre, performing arts, museum studies or creative writing. Other majors relating to the above will be considered. Applicants are expected to enroll in an academic institution on a full-time basis during each academic semester of support. AWARD: The scholarship will be awarded in September, 2007 for the 2007-2008 academic year.
DEADLINE: Applications for the 2007-2008 academic year must be postmarked no later than April 2, 2007 .
