Rooftop Pavilion
The renovation project will enhance all 174,000 square foot of Center in the Square and will include a spectacular rooftop addition. The green roof will be multilevel, offering educational exhibits and serving as a venue for entertainment functions. There will be classroom space, as well as dining facilities. A significant portion of the fifth floor will be opened and re-enclosed in a dynamic skylight as part of a new butterfly habitat. In addition, many of the latest sustainable, green, and energy-harnessing technologies will be incorporated into the rooftop experience for both their operational effectiveness and educational aspects. This awe-inspiring rooftop will become one of the most innovative on the East Coast.
In addition to its many special features, the green roof will afford a bird's eye view of historic downtown Roanoke and the Roanoke Valley, which few residents or visitors have seen before. So whether you want to have dinner out on the town, or learn about butterflies native to the region, Center's new rooftop is sure to attract visitors of all ages.
