Center in the Square is an innovative partnership that provides a free home, utilities, security, and building maintenance to seven independent, non-profit arts and science organizations.
Because of Center in the Square's support, these organizations are able to focus on what they do best - bringing excellence in programs, exhibits, productions, and outreach services to the public.
We are committed to the vital role that arts and science education plays in a well-rounded society as we serve a growing demand in our community.
An Annual Campaign gift is an all-inclusive method to support the overall operation of Center in the Square. This type of donation is important because of the wide range of its application. In conjunction with sponsorships and other support income, Annual Campaign gifts help Center in the Square maintain a balanced budget and support everyday operations in order to continue providing a secure home for our seven vital organizations.
Please consider a contribution to Center in the Square in honor or in memory of someone special.
It's a wonderful gift for birthdays, anniversaries, graduation or just to say thank you. Center in the Square will send an attractive card to the special recipient or to the family, letting them know of your kindness.
All donors are listed in our Annual Report (unless you wish to remain anonymous). Benefits are given that vary according to giving levels. Please contact Julee Goodman by phone or e-mail jgoodman@centerinthesquare.org for more information. 540-224-1211

Center in the Square employs ten security staff providing round-the-clock security for the entire building.
On an average each year security unlock or lock doors 100 times per day, answer 60 phone calls per day, respond to Center on Church door buzzer 50 times per day.
Center in the Square employs a Director of Facilities who oversees the extensive maintenance demands of Center in the Square,
Center on Church and that of the Link Museum and the Shenandoah Hotel where Mill Mountain Theatre
houses their visiting actors. With an old, historic building there's a constant demand for repairs to keep the plumbing functioning, heating and air conditioning ticking over, elevators moving, and electrical supply flowing for all of our resident organizations, and that includes the old passenger station that now houses the O. Winston Link Museum.
With more than 400,000 visitors each year to Center in the Square there is a heavy demand on the custodial staff. We vacuum, clean, dust, and wash a large number of windows inside and out to ensure all the facilities stay in a clean and presentable condition. With approximately 200,000 children through Center annually there are always lots of little hand prints to remove!
Each year Center in the Square uses 1,000 rolls of bathroom tissue, 58,400 yards of paper towels, collect 5,900 bags of trash, and 1,000 bags of paper recycling. For Center in the Square and Center on Church alone, one custodian walks approximately 468,000 steps a year.
Money raised as part of the Annual Campaign
provides all the utilities for our seven beneficiary organizations. This, along with all the other benefits provided to them free, has a powerful impact on their ability to focus on quality programming.
We rely on strong support from individuals in the community to provide one-third of our operating budget. Please help us by giving a tax-deductible gift to our Annual Campaign. We are enormously grateful for your support.
